Contemporary Romantic Painting
There is a power in the horse that reaches beyond the ordinary. A pure, immense presence, full of quiet knowing. In its presence, something in us remembers what is true, it is, courage, love, freedom and our belonging to the living world.
Rooted in classical painting traditions and shaped by Scotland’s cultural and equestrian heritage, my work brings the character of the horse into a contemporary romantic vision
My work is concerned with presence, atmosphere and the emotional charge held within the visible world including the character of a horse, the spirit of Scotland, the feeling of a particular place.
Working in layered oils, I combine close observation and structured drawing with expressive brushwork, softened edges and deliberate incompletion. The paintings move between realism and suggestion, allowing the subject to remain recognisable while leaving room for atmosphere, memory and imagination.
My oil paintings explore and bring together horses, figures and Scotland’s rich cultural heritage.

Original Paintings
The original paintings form the heart of my studio practice.
I paint from my own ideas, observations and responses to horses, figures and Scotland, allowing each work to develop through looking, drawing and painting.
New paintings are added as they are completed. Selected works are available to collectors directly from the studio.

Limited Editions
Selected paintings are also available as limited edition archival prints, hand signed and numbered by the artist.
Each edition is limited to 25 prints per image.

Private Commissions
Alongside my independent studio practice, I undertake a very small number of private commissions each year.
A commissioned painting begins with the individual horse, its character and the story behind it, and develops through the same artistic approach that shapes my wider work.
I take on only one or two commissions each year
I paint for the moments when character, atmosphere and a sense of place come together.
